Atomic Shakespeare - I can't believe that so far not one thread has been started about this wonderful episode... officially my daughter's favorite episode since she was about 4 1/2 years, by the way We know that Cybill wasn't happy with this episode because of the way her character was treated (forced to marry, gagged and in bondage... can you say Fifty Shades?? ;D) Of course, those are not nice things, but well - it was the sixteenth Century, and in the end it's more about how the strength of the woman was appreciated, how she succeeded in "taming" the man, and that inf ront of the whole public... so, can you imagine why Cybill was not happy with the episode? Are her qualms understandable to you? I must say, I'm not quite there.

IDK maybe because her dresses were so uncomfortable and Bruce got a musical number and she didn't? I know people think I am crazy but this and the Dream Sequence are my least favorite episodes. Guess cause I'm not a real fan of DS and to me this one is also an hour long DS. It's not THEM>

The dresses were surely uncomfortable. But I think it was more the way the story was told that bothered her, under a feminist POV. Oh well, of course I think you're crazy ;D ;D but not because of that. Tastes are different. That's a logic reason, if you don't like dream sequences, and you're right - it's not them. But, in a way, it is. Oh well. But what about the dream in Tracks of my Tears? I think you like that one...

That dream was short and to the point; not an entire episode. And unbelievably HOT!

I know cybill was very open about dislike for dresses & I think that she thought they thought of her as a shrew also was like punishment for her . Did I read this in her book? Not sure. Maybe behind the scenes in DVD I'm not big on DS if it's not them too but do I love the kissing and bed scene here ? Heck yeah ! Lol

I can hardly believe it's only the dresses, but the "shrew" thing is an interesting point! I just flipped through this part of her book again, and you're partly right. She had suggested David being the shrew... then she complained about Kate being portrayed as very unsympathetic and Petruchio thus being able to "score". Still, I don't get it. In the end, Petruchio acts in a very modern way and acknowledges what she had taught him, that men and women should be equal and partners, a thoroughly modern message.
I think that's all part of her general grudge against the show and the set at that time.

Because she was jealous that Bruce's career was taking off and maybe she wanted something more with him and he didn't reciprocate her wants and needs!

Because she was jealous that Bruce's career was taking off and maybe she wanted something more with him and he didn't reciprocate her wants and needs! Yes I think that added both to her general grudge. Also, what she says about it in her book (about how things went when it got nasty, I mean), is only partly convincing. I mean, I believe she fought for her character and of course Glenn didn't like that (ego against ego). But in her book she claims that Glenn was angry at her for getting pregnant and that after that, her character was written acting "in a bipolar way", and making her go as low as can be as a "feminist atheist", naming Yours Very Deadly and Creatures. Then she was amazed that it could go even lower and complains about Atomic Shakespeare. Now, we know that YVD and Creatures were early season three, and also Atomic Shakespeare was season three, so by no means could those episodes have been a revenge whatsoever for her pregnancy or anything else. Bothered me a bit, I must admit.

But she got pregnant after Glenn pinned her as an atheist. What was she saying?

All those episodes she mentioned happened before her pregnancy. It makes no sense. I think she just wanted to underscore her point, that she was only mobbed because she got pregnant and fought for her character. Obviously, this is not entirely true...

Obviously. It was pure jealousy

Not very nice... so I guess she's not exactly the innocent victim she likes to present...

Oh no. I doubt it. She seems like a bitch. She was right about Maddie marrying Walter etc. but I cna deal with those episodes they are funny. The ending of Season 5 is what sticks in my craw.

Oh yes, she was surely right about a few things about her Maddie character... but I can't share all of her critics. Marrying Walter was funny, but out of character. Also, I agree about Yours Very Deadly - it was out of character for Maddie to encourage the woman to continue writing to the creep. But for example Atomic Shakespeare and BMOMS are really not episodes to complain about. Neither is Creatures. Why does she think it's negative she's been portrayed as an atheist?? Maybe because Cybill herself thinks that's a negative thing? Anyway, I don't know if she's a bitch, but let's say she surely isn't very easy to work with -- too many sources have confirmed that to believe that it was only said because she always just spoke her mind. JMHO of course. I always think where there's so much smoke, there must be a teensy tiny fire somewhere...

I am not even saying she is a bitch in a negative way.
