Every time I rewatch an episode I see something new or think of something new. Noticed that when Maddie told David she missed him when he was leaving her office after they were reunited after their vacations he never said it back. He says. "What did you say?" and she answers. "You heard me." He should have said I missed you too! ;D

Probably he should have LOL but I think here we have another typical situation of actions speaking louder than words - I have to rewatch the episode (and soon I will LOL), but I think we (and Maddie) can see quite clearly that he has missed her: the way he grills her about her time in New York, how anxious he is to find out if she met "old friends", if she made "new friends"... he wants to hear that she didn't have a great time without him, and that she didn't rekindle any old romance or start a new one; at least that's how I perceive it.
I also think that Maddie understood that perfectly well; otherwise I don't think she would have admitted it herself, what do you think?

Yes I think she knew he missed her but I'm sure she would have loved to hear him say it. Her smile at the end of that scene is priceless. I love how they both look at each other with smoldering eyes. She was open then! David needed to strike when her fire was hot!

Of course she would have loved to hear it, everybody would. But that was David, and I think at that moment she was still fine with it. But I agree, in the beginning of season 3 she seems really open, and I don't understand why he didn't really hit on her - he had a realistic chance!

And I think that is another reason for her ambivalence after big bang. She wondered why it took Sam to bring them together (David still hadn't declared his feelings) Was it a competition or challenge on David's end or did he really love and want her?

You know I feel a bit differently about the big bang (I mean I see the reasons for her behavior but feel ambivalent about them LOL); but I really don't understand why he didn't make a move before BOB, what do you think are the reasons? What was he waiting for?

I think he knew that if he began a relationship with Maddie then it would have to be serious and committed. After his failed relationships I don't think David was willing to make that commitment at that time. He knew she loved him. He knew that being with her would have to lead to marriage. That scared him.

You might be right, although I wouldn't say he was not willing - maybe not ready yet and scared, agree.
I'm not so sure though that he knew she loved him - how could he be sure? I think if he was sure, he wouldn't have been so scared; if he was sure there wouldn't have been any need to be scared, because obviously Tess and Jillian never really loved him.
Do you think that he loved her already?

Yes of course he loved her! And he may not have been sure how much she loved him or how deeply but he knew she had feelings for him. Why did she follow him to NY? Why was she jealous of Jillian? Why was she jealous of that phone call in Creatures? He knew but may have thought he loved her more. Same with Maddie she must have known David cared about her but not how strong or how deeply. And Maddie might have been unsure that David wanted to settle down due to his past etc.

Yes it was playful; later it got ugly and tense.
