I love when after Jillian leaves Maddie tells David "You're incredible." He smirks and says "Jillian told you huh?"

I love how he loves to play it down how that woman had hurt him. I think he did it for two reasons: he wanted to save his face with Maddie, of course, and he wanted to convey that Jillian was not important and nothing Maddie would have to worry about. Although he puts up a light face, it's a very vulnerable moment for him.

I don't think he does it to have Maddie believe she has nothing to worry about..he did it to save face and not show he is vulnerable. That is why the scene in TTTM when he tells Maddie in front of the office staff that he is wildly in love with her is not David.

No, I didn't mean he did it to show he was vulnerable - but it showed the audience that he was vulnerable. He had been badly bruised and it was still getting to him. I really think that he partly wanted to make Maddie understand that Jillian was of no importance (any more) to him.

Yes he wanted to prove that he was the type that women didn't leave an impression with him...

Hmmm I don't think so. Save face, yes. Nobody likes to admit they've been used and cheated on. That's humiliating.

Yes no one wants to admit that. And wearing this love em and leave em persona helped to avoid all that David didn't want to feel or admit about Jillian, Tess and MAddie.

No, I don't think he was fighting his feeling for Maddie but truthfully if he could have fallen for Jillian again so quickly his feelings for Maddie were not that strong yet.

Hmmm... I never saw it that way, but you could be right. Of course, Jillian played a foul game with him - I highly doubt he'd have fallen for her again, hadn't she pulled her little gimmick with the balcony, the following attempted "murder" etc. etc. - he'd have gotten his "straight answer" from Jillian and left that hotel room for good, I think.

I think he cared for Maddie and was very attracted to her but I don't think he was in love with her yet. As I watch the earlier episodes I try and see who fell hard first...we know David was smitten and awed by her from the first minute he laid eyes on her...but...??

Agree I don't think it was love yet... deep care, yes. Who fell first? Interesting question! Gonna come back to that one!
