I have a question: I haven't seen this, obviously, but from the description - why didn't David just tell Annie that he wasn't planning on getting too fast too close with her? Why did he prefer her to leave him? He could have easily said "Hey, I'm not looking for a close commitment at the moment, and I surely don't want another complicated relationship with a third person in the background - sort things out with your husband first."

Maybe cause he was allergic to not only a straight answer but having to be a man and let some one down the right way. Who knows? It did seem strange that he would break up with her in that way but once again maybe that's David Addison running away from a sticky situation and taking the easy way out.
And Maddie seemed surprised but not shocked when she found out it was Jamie too.

Hmm that doesn't quite convince me... David was mostly never afraid of telling others unpleasant truths. How many times had he told Maddie straight in the face when he thought she was wrong? Just because you used the term: Jillian was the one being "allergic to a straight answer"

That was different when he told Maddie she was wrong. This was a relationship he didn't want to go further with and I think he knew he was wrong to have taken it as far as he did. He took the easy way out..he knew she would leave when she caught him with another woman. He didn't need to hear her recriminations and her tears. He got away scot free...not even thinking f all the hurt he caused and the bridges he burned.

Why was it different? He hit Maddie right between the eyes sometimes when he pointed out her mistakes (like in MWCW for example, that was pretty hard stuff he told her), and he cared about her and worked with her every day.
Annie, on the other hand, was of no importance to him, why would he care how she reacted if he told her clearly that he didn't want to carry on with her? She'd disappear from his life, end of story.

I don't think he wanted the drama. She seemed very dramatic (unlike Maddie who would not show how she felt) I guess he wanted to avoid a scene. He didn't care about her..and he cared about Maddie.

i agree i think he just didn't want a scene too with annie. he didnt need no heartfelt goodbye too cause it wasnt no passionate love for him,it was just some affair he was having , he was having fun . im sure annie felt like it was more but she felt that way way too soon. david probably didnt know what else to do with getting rid of annie and used his detective skills i guess.

Hmm, you might be right girls... if she was a drama queen (which I didn't know to that extent) it was probably to avoid this drama. And yes, he didn't care (enough) for her to want to make a clean, a proper goodbye.

i think David felt bad for her husband too when he met him and he had to end it quickly so she could go back to him. He must have seen how much Mark loved her.

Would be a David way to feel... I can't tell of course as I haven't seen them interact (David and Mark or Annie and Mark)

Yes when David met Mark he realized he was playing with people's hearts and lives. He didn't really love her and I suppose he didn't want to break up their marriage..only to have him end it with her sooner than later. He was having an "affair" Or as Maddie calls him .."hit and run Addison"

Yes this was a downright sleazy affair with a married woman David was having ,one he was against in prior seasons.

I agree he didn't give two farts for Annie and this was the send off she deserved. Unless it's someone he loves it's not David's style to sit down and have a heart to heart to heart. Baring his soul is not his strong suit.

Baring his soul is not his strong suit. Yes I agree Joy. He is one to shy away from being hurt. He wasn't hurt though for himself ending it with Annie and He realized this was just fun to him and this girl was getting way to serious about him way to fast. He did a good thing ending it this way I think. She was married he wasn't. He didn't owe her anything . He didn't profess love to her or ask her to move in , she did that all on her own.
