Mr. Grey would have had a party the way Maddie was rolling her eyes at the dinner table. I can understand she was annoyed with David for ruining her date with Sam. I understand she was annoyed that David got drunk. I felt that during this dinner Maddie was throwing Sam's accomplishments in David's face. I don't know if she was doing it to make David feel bad or make Sam look good. I don't like the way she keeps looking at Sam as if to say 'Ignore him, he is a jerk." I just don't like the way she acts toward David.

We had an extended debate on facebook about this, I remember. Yes, Sue, totally agree with you. I don't like Maddie's behavior in most of the dinner scene either.

Not deliberately mean maybe, but her behavior ticks me off big big time.

I sort of felt it was her and Sam against David. I didn't like that.

I was just thinking do you think she acted that way like a snooty girl maybe to save face with Sam, she really couldn't be all giggly or giddy with David in front of Sam she had to be the model from Chicago with Sam so she acted the part ,rolled her eyes at David. Just an idea. But once Sam left table she was all tell me David what is it, all sweet. Ahhh mean Maddie LOL

I don't think she acted like she acted to save face with Sam. I think she really was not comfortable with the mere fact of David joining them at their table. She was frustrated because she felt that there was more behind David's appearance than he had told her, but he wouldn't say more (which he couldn't, of course, because Sam was back way too soon... ). The situation made her feel awkward, and we know in Maddie's book being embarrassed is one of the worst things ever, so she was upet about it and blamed David. And maybe the comparison to oh-so-worldly, cultivated, well-educated Yale-boy spaceman made her see the difference between Sam and David even more evident and underlined the things she did not like about David. I'm just realizing that I'm trying to find explanations for Maddies behavior, but I must say, none of it satisfies me completely, and in the end I still despise how she acted during that dinner.

Yes,I believe David's behavior at dinner was a deciding factor in Maddie sleeping with Sam. In her mind she must have compared David the drunk, immature jerk to mature, sober, level-headed Sam and thought she had made her decision. But her head couldn't control her body or heart after it was over. David did act like a jerk but I still hated the way she looked at Sam concerning David.
