Why was Maddie so much against celebrating her birthday? I mean, not everybody cares that much about it and wants a big fuss over it or be in the middle of attention - but usually, everybody loves to be appreciated and thought of, to be shown that others care about you and think of you. Why did Maddie hate that so much that she was even being rude towards the staff?
I always thougth there had to be something more behind that strange behavior. Any ideas?

I think it had to do with her getting older despite what she told David. And also she was thinking of how her life had changed during the past year and she wasn't happy about.

You really think about the getting older? Hmmm. Well, nobody likes to think they're getting older, but a that strong reaction?? I mean, she was really close to being rude, and she had no excuse for that, had she? Yes she mentioned too that the past year hadn't been exactly the best and most memorable (posotovely) of her life - I won't comment on this now - but I was more under the impression that she never had liked to celebrate her birthday. Which leads me to the conclusion there must be some reason behind. But maybe you're right, and the getting older thing was the main reason - after all, she had indeed made all of her fortune only by her outer appearance.

I think it was the getting older thing and yes she wasn't nice when she said she was unhappy how her life had changed in the past year. But really even though she may have met and liked David who wouldn't miss all that money and security? She could have said it in such a way to make him understand what she was missing but he didn't even seem put off by what she said. He knew maybe she didn't mean it as a slap to him.
