Does anybody else think that the scene when Maddie comes to David's apartment to talk to him mirrors the trunk scene from MTTC?
Okay, they don't sit on a trunk, but she comes to him by night, wearing a knitted jacket over what looks like her PJs. But then, how differently does it go! How different do they interact, different from the way David and Maddie interacted! Terri is indeed not complicated - she comes to him, and she opens her mouth and actually reveals her feelings - okay, with some effort, but nobody ever said that was easy, right?
And David - in exchange for her honesty, he tries to explain completely what he feels, even if he doesn't understand it completely himself.

What is a striking difference to me here is that David SPOKE and actually tried to make sense of what he was feeling to Terry! Ok even though Maddie may have not been as blunt as Terry was David knew why she was there. I mean why would Maddie come to his house in the middle of the night asking him what he wanted to tell her that night in the restaurant if she didn't care for him? Maddie was brave enough to come to his house and try to explain what she was feeling but David kept silent! And he joked which he didn't do with Terry. He listened to her and then he spoke seriously. I wish David would have opened up and instead of saying "I hate you Maddie Hayes. I've always hated you." He could have declared his love and what he wanted to say when he went to her house in BOB. Ok Sam might have been in the picture but his feelings hadn't changed for Maddie and she was there so he knew she was interested. So why so silent Dave?

This question belongs to another thread and I won't open this can of worms again... ;D just as much: she set the pace here, and she didn't tell him anything, and btw you forgot one little word: he said I hate you too to match the tone she'd set - he told her exactly what she had told him; not more, not less. And if he should have known why she came there, she should have known why he came to the restaurant, right? Neither of them wanted to give away more than the other one did.

They both needed to open up more and express their real feelings to one another. If they could have opened up to each other like Terri did to David they would have been married with kids lol by Season 3. But then we would not be discussing and dissecting their relationship here 25year later! LOL

LOL Yes I totally agree to that - no matter who screwed up at which point, they definitely both needed to overcome their insecurities and express their real feelings.
