It breaks my heart when I see how many times in this episode alone David got upset and ready to forgive in a jiffy.
First thing, how hurt and angry he is when he learns that she is coming home but never bothered to call him. He had every right to be angry!! And yet - when she came in, there he was, looking at her with so much love and tenderness! I love how they do their code thing again:
"Do you have a not from your mother?" (What were you thinking??)
"Would a note from my doctor do?" (This whole thing scared me so much. I'm sorry, David.)
"Yes." (You're forgiven.)
And then - you can clearly see his determination to get it right this time, to make her comfortable, to make her happy... and he gets another "Wait. I need time." Of course, he gets angry, and the shout-out ends with him leaving - and one minute later he is back and apologizes, having forgiven her already, again.
And what does he get for that? Being accused that he hasn't anything nice to say, after three years. Yeah well David, Maddie is right, you're really a crude non worthy superficial bastard, shame on you.
Sarcasm apart -- do you think things would have been better in their relationship (or: could it have been saved at this point) if he hadn't forgiven her always so easily?

But I think that was David! I think that was his personality and not only with Maddie. Look how he forgave Jillian. But I think if he was a bit more aloof and unforgiving at this point it wouldn't have mattered. It took seeing him with another woman to wake Maddie up and realize how much she loved and wanted him. And although it looks like he forgives her in Flesh, I still think she had some work cut out for her. Unfortunately, David would never be that carefree, forgiving, worshipping David again. She wounded him too deeply and when the baby died (getting ahead of myself) he must have felt we are done, I am done.

Yes of course that was him. I was just wandering if his indulgence made her take him too much for granted (which I believe she did). I also meant if it would have changed anything in general, not just in this special situation. Agree (gulp), here it really was needed that she saw him with Terri to wake her up.
But I really think in Flesh he had forgiven her completely and was feeling her insight and her genuine regret. I also don't think that after the loss he felt that it was all over, but how can we know? The writers showed us only crap.

I think she did take him for granted until she EEk when he would not admit how upset he was about her marriage. I also think he forgave her in Flesh but not completely and before they had a chance to truly work things out between them their relationship was hot by another hard knock. And like I've said before even though the writing was disjointed and inconsistent I think the writers were dead on with David's personality change..he was no longer that immature care free fun loving guy he had been hurt and disappointed and that turned him into a wary, cynical man.

Hmm as I haven't seen season 5 I can't really judge this... but it makes sense what you're saying. Would be a normal thing indeed... I just don't want to believe it...

Well that is why in our stories we fix David and their relationship!
