Thanks to Sue , I finally saw the scene where David is taking Annie for a drive and they end up parked at the Hollywood sign. Okay, I hope nobody will want to kill me, and of course I wished with all my heart that it ws Maddie there with him in the car, but the whole scene is very romantic, and the kisses they exchaneg are great. I love it (always ignoring that it's Annie he's talking to) how he asks "Do you want to kiss me?" Sigh...

Just make believe the blonde is Maddie. I'm sure he kissed Maddie like that many times. Notice how romantic is with other women(Annie, Nurse Sandra, various clerks and receptionists etc,) but with Maddie he acts like a jerk.

Not always. You just said you're sure he kissed Maddie like that many times, and I think so too. The reason is of course that he didn't really care about those other women, tehy couldn't hurt him, so if was safe to be romantic. With Maddie, he was always on the edge of defensiveness. And look how other women reacted to him - not always criticizing, laughing at his jokes, adoring... two totally different pair of shoes. But those kisses were swoonworthy.

Yes I do agree about how he and Maddie interacted. It wasn't safe for either of them to be romantic. (I mean look how she acted toward Sam and even Walter,,playing with his tie!). David was afraid of her caustic barbs and she was afraid of his glibness and snideness. They loved each other too much and were so afraid they came across as the opposite. And I meant a jerk like as in 'he can't keep it nice"

Yes, agree. Both couldn't let it be nice in their respective ways...
