Yes, that's my verdict after having seen this gruesome episode full-length for the first time.
Already the beginning when Maddie is talking to her shrink makes my toes curl, and not in a good way. A "manageable relationship"?? WTF is that? And they way she links it to the remark that "David has matured... only a little, but matured" - apart from sounding very arrogant IMO it sounds that his maturing made the relationship finally manageable; which sounds like his immaturity was the only roadblock to that relationship. Seriously??
The exchange between Maddie and Annie shows that Annie knows perfectly well that Maddie and David are former lovers. Why did she hit on him? She says something like "I forgot how it is to go out with Maddie Hayes" - sounds a bit like she's always been a little envious of her famous model cousin?
I hate how Maddie makes herself sound old by asking when Annie will make her "a great-aunt". I also don't like how giggly she is with Annie - I know we never saw how Maddie behaved with friends, but from what we have seen from her, that giggliness looks very forced and wrong to me.
I wish we could see how it came that David asked Maddie and Annie out - I don't think he had a plan to hit on Maddie's cousin at that point.
The talk Maddie has with Annie when they dress up for the evening - I really hate what she says about him; she's been badmouthing him quite a few times, mostly directly in his face, but this is really yucky.
That whole evening is horrible - when he shows up at Maddie's house she's more than hostile, and he gives it right back. What a juxtaposition to how Annie receives him! We've talked about the dancing scene and the "No thank you" on the other thread - I think that maybe it was his last effort, and when she said no he probably thought well okay, you have turned me down for the last time. The whole scene is terribly wrong - yes they both smile, and he says he's happy right there dancing with her, but the way he reacts when he asks her if she's happy and she says she's not sad is terrible. His "good" sounds as if he couldn't care less about how she feels, and I think when she praises the other couple as "so civilized" (which is weird because she has only caught a glimpse of them and cannot judge their relationship so far) and tells him that she envies that and he says "I know you do" he's really angry. These words sound indeed sarcastic and bitter to me. I think he's reminded of all her complaints about "not the one I'm supposed to be", "only hot or cold, no in between", "too hard work". Please note: I'm not judging or blaming her here, I'm just trying to analyze David's thoughts.
I don't think that Bert ruined anything here - Maddie sounds like she's over them and David sounds angry.
The "oldtimer"... ugh. I can't believe she was so tired, she really acted like an old woman. Annie the slut took her chance to hit on David, and I think he was flattered too and enjoyed the company of a woman that seemed to be uncomplicated. The way they mock Maddie is disgusting. I've commented on the kissing scene on the other thread too, so I'll leave that out here.
The "whoop whoop" scene... yes, he was definitely trying to annoy her I think, but not in that playful way he had done all the time before; that's not nice to see. He threw her "none of your business" right back into her face, and of course he was right - it wasn't any of her business. But it was awful to see of course.
Love Agnes' speech - unfortunately it came too late. Where the hell was Bert?? Weren't they supposed to be on that stakeout together? Grrrrr!! We can see how worried Maddie was about Annie, right? She wanted to claw her eyes out here. David looked terrible in this scene.
The other car scene with David and Annie - again, he sounds very angry at Maddie. Not likeable at all, but at the same time we get an idea that he's not over her - why would he be so angry if he was over her?
The last scene - I really don't know what Maddie had planned to say, had she planned anything? Of course there was no chance in hell she would tell him she was hurt; I ask myself why she went there at all? It was clear that he would react badly if she started with her "I'm worried about Annie" shit again. It's a horrible blueprint of the whole Walter story ("You did it to spite me"; "No this is not about you"; "I know you're upset"), but this time there are no sparks left and no hope. This is the end.
Okay, I think I need to read Pillow Talk now. That's how this scene should have gone.
Bottom line: Maddie and David really seem to be disgusted with each other, and frankly - I am disgusted with both here; I don't know these spiteful people anymore. Which makes it almost impossible to still care for them.
