Saw this one for the first time yesterday and must comment on it right away to get it over with.
Yes, it got worse after WGC and no, I don't care anymore about these people. They disgust me. Both.
Almost nothing in this episode seems right and in character!
Maddie taking a cooking class?? But that's just random. Nevertheless it shows how disinterested in their own show those writers have gotten - taking into consideration how genially they used to compose every little detail in the earlier days.
Maddie being oh so friendly with Annie; Maddie lying for her cousin, and not for a good reason but to hide her cheating; David letting Annie move into his apartment after two days, allowing her to play wifey and buying furniture for her; David leaving Maddie in her mess of a house...
They both accuse each other of things they are constantly doing themselves:
When David tells Maddie she starts to look desperate he forgets how desperate he looked when he got jealous of the cop and stormed right into his own office like a 12 year old to call Annie and ask her what she was wearing. This to me is the moment it's the most obvious that he uses Annie to trick himself into forgetting Maddie but it doesn't work.
And when Maddie tells David he has an inflated ego because he always thinks every conversation was about him (when, in this case, he had hit the nail right on the head) - what about her accusing him of jealousy when he gets angry because she let the cop look at the Anselmo case (he was right here too - cop or not cop, she had no business showing anybody outside the agency confidential stuff about a client!) or saying that the whole Annie thing was just to get back at her - whether it was right or not, she was always the one thinking that everything he said and did was about her. Speak of an inflated ego.
And when Maddie tells David that the cop is someone easy to be with, finally someone who lets her be herself - well, apart from the icky fact that Annie is her cousin that's exactly what David could say about Annie, right? After all, Maddie had been the one constantly trying to change him.
I hate the way she talks about him and badmouths him, and I hate the way he rants about her. All the same, I don't feel bad for either of them - they both disgust me more and more. At this point I honestly think that no fanfic whatsoever would ever be able to fix that - whatever was left of their love for each other, by then it was destroyed beyond repair. The hurt they both inflicted on each other here, the disgust they obviously felt for each other was bound to poison anything that was left of their relationship, and I don't think it could have been reanimated again in a believable way.
And really, what is it about David sitting on the toilet all the time? Maybe the writers' way to tell the audience they gave a shit about them by then? As if we hadn't alerady noticed that!
No, I have nothing more to say about this episode, and it's a waste of time trying to analyze it. Also, I don't care about their motivations any more. And seriously, why would I? Even Agnes seems to have given up on them - or why else would she say that Miss Hayes isn't able to fall in love with a mere mortal? Some bitter truth in that.
Oh, one more thing: at one point I really LOLed, and it was Annie who made me do so; it was when she told Maddie: "You're a pal." (for covering her up in front of her husband) Honestly, I don't think it was a clever move of the writers; it was just unintentionally funny. Yay.
