This has always been a crucial phrase to me, and although David and Maddie weren't as far in their relationship, it's a very revealing one and basically summing up the differences between them.
I like this episode a lot and think it's quite underrated! What are your thoughts?

Let's mention the episode cause for some reason the name of the episode doesn't appear with the threads. Maybe I can fix it..andywayI love this episode. At first, I wasn't crazy about it but after rewatching it a few times I realize it is a gem And yes it does sum up there differences. How he is so eager to believe in magic and she is always looking for the explanation. (These differences have bee revisited a few times especially in In God We Strongly Suspect and All Creatures Great...) But she claims she did too clap for Tinkerbell..yeah maybe when she was a little girl with stars in her eyes. One thing I didn't like about Moonlighting was that they never gave us a glimpse into why Maddie was so rigid and unyielding, and so in need for control. We can understand David's behavior a little better knowing about his past relationships but even with Sam we were never told any background information. (We should discuss this under the Sam arc).
But yes I love this episode and they both look so cute..

Hahaha Sue... yes, let's mention the episode - you didn't! It's Somehwere Under The Rainbow Agree, this episode's a gem, and yes, these issues (let's call them spiritual differences, for lack of a better word - or can you think of one?) are discussed also in In God We Strongly Suspect and All Creatures... - good observation! Oh, and I also agree that it's a shame we don't know more about Maddie's background. I have a feeling she'd come off much more likeable if we knew more, or at least we could have understood her a bit better sometimes.

Exactly. We should have been told a bit more especially about her relationship with Sam. did they keep in touch over the years? How serious were they when they dated? Was he her first? Her only? LOL David tries to guess how many men she has been intimate with in COM...and when she says at the end she wasn't intimated with her college boyfriend were we suppose to believe she only was with two men (does the spaceman count twice David asks her LOL). But then when he is lunching with Annie , they bring up Anthony the married man (Maddie says he really wasn't married whatever that means) that she dated when she lived with her in NY. Now can you picture Maddie dating a married man? I can't.

I don't think Maddie and Sam kept in touch over the years, otherwise we would have known about it. Can't say if he was her first or her only one before David, but I doubt it. She wasn't a hellcat but she wasn't a wallflower either I think. But I really don't think Maddie would date a married man, unless she didn't know he was married. Just a thought: maybe that was a deliberately mean hint about Cybill? We know that she wasn't so fussy about that...

Well according to their conversation at lunch she did date a married man named Anthony..whether she slept with him they don't say...and David seemed to make her nervous when he pinpointed her lovers to a game of ping pong. I don't think she got around much just from the way she acted. Maybe she dated but she said it herself she wasn't the type to jump into bed..she needed to contemplate it..etc..

No I'm sure she didn't get around much, agree. I don't think there were only three men though - I mean she was 36, and in the eighties...
